John Chamberlain Prints
1986 to 1987 John produced two series of monoprints in his Sarasota, Florida studio. These are two examples. John selected metal and plastic pieces from the many automotive parts laid out his studio for sculptures in progress. These were flattened, bent or cut into a variety of shapes. Heavy weight aluminum foil was also folded and shaped. These pieces were surface rolled with ink or inked in intaglio or treated both ways then arranged on the press. This procedure was repeated several times for each monoprint, rearranging and selecting new metal pieces until John was satisfied with the results. Occasionally additional colours were hand applied with a brayer or hand stamped after the paper was printed and removed from the press.
